If you build it, they will come.
Encourage a wonderful diversity of solitary native bees in your yard by providing nesting spaces for mason and leaf-cutter bees. You'll be able to watch and bees come and go into a nesting chamber (one bee per chamber), then close it cavity-by-cavity with mud or leaves until the following spring when the new bees emerge and repeat the process.
At this workshop, you'll assemble and customize your very own bee hotel using pre-cut cedar planks and pre-drilled branches and blocks, making sure to pack all the remaining space with reeds to ensure no paper wasps squat in your hotel. No woodworking experience is necessary and this workshop is appropriate for children (with an accompanying adult).
Gene Hayden will lead the workshop, guiding you through the assembly process, teaching you interesting facts about native bees and giving you advice on how to position your hotel so it attracts bees and maximizes the habitat quality of your yard.
