We’re building pollinator habitat along the entire length of Coal Creek.
The Coal Creek Pollinator District
Started in 2022, the Coal Creek Pollinator District will provide habitat to native bees, butterflies, birds and more along Coal Creek’s entire run from Golden to Erie, Colorado. Our vision is simple: To refurbish underused lands by removing invasive weeds and grasses and replacing them with native plants that bloom in every season and support our local mix of pollinating insects.
There are three main channels with the Pollinator District.
Pollinator Islands These are our marquee volunteer projects. With permission of landowners such as businesses, developers, or HOAs, we install a 300-square-foot garden full of native plants. These establish quickly, require little supplemental water, and are hardy enough to engage almost any landscape. Spaced properly, small pollinator islands can add up to habitat or bees and butterflies and help preserve genetic diversity and resiliency in our plant and insect populations.
Certified Habitat Is your garden already a hot spot for native plant species? Fill our our form to certify your residential garden and have it included within the Pollinator District!
Prairie Partners We restore native short-grass prairie to larger tracts of land, creating areas of habitat that are more ecologically stable and offer pollinating insects better access to food and shelter with less transit time.
